The best GEX tools, compared on method — not marketing.
Every gamma exposure tool starts from the same settled open interest — yet two dashboards can show you different flip levels on the same morning. The difference is method: sign conventions, intraday modeling, and how honestly the refresh is described. This page compares the six tools traders actually choose between — including where each one beats Profit Builders — on methodology, coverage, levels, and price.
Same open interest in — different levels out
Start with the part nobody can sell you an edge on: the input. Every GEX vendor computes from open interest that the OCC compiles and settles overnight. There is no live open-interest feed — the position base every dashboard shows you this morning was fixed before the open. When two tools disagree about where the gamma flip sits, they are not working from different positions. They are making different choices about the same ones.
Three choices do most of the diverging. The first is the dealer sign convention: the standard model assumes dealers are long calls and short puts, which makes call gamma positive and put gamma negative — but not every vendor states its convention, and a flipped assumption flips the regime read. The second is intraday modeling: honest tools reprice the settled book against live spot; some also estimate how today’s trading has changed open interest, which is a model on top of a model and should be labeled as one. The third is scope — whether the surface covers the index complex only, or the individual names you actually trade.
That is why this comparison grades methodology before features. Our own calculation — inputs, sign convention, stated limits — is published at the gamma exposure methodology, and the levels themselves are public for all 194 symbols at the GEX hub. Every price on this page is also in the Pricing Index, checked vendor by vendor.
What to look for in a GEX tool.
Five criteria that separate a gamma surface you can reason about from a number you have to take on faith.
A published methodology — sign convention included
If a vendor won't write down whether dealer call gamma counts positive or negative, you cannot reconcile their flip level with anyone else's, or with the tape. A methodology page you can read before paying is the single best filter in this category.
Open-interest honesty: settled vs ‘live’
Open interest settles overnight. Intraday movement in a GEX chart is the settled position repriced against live spot — sometimes plus a modeled estimate of today's open-interest changes. The trustworthy tools say which of those their numbers are. Be wary of any dashboard that claims a live open-interest feed; none exists.
Symbol coverage — index-only, or the names you trade
SPX and SPY gamma is the headline product at most vendors. If you trade single names, check per-symbol coverage, and whether each name gets the full level set — flip, walls, per-strike detail — or a bare net number.
The level set
Gamma flip (zero gamma), call wall, and put wall are the standard read. Broader suites add second-order exposures — vanna and charm — which matter most around expiries and hedging flows. Useful if you trade those dynamics; noise if you don't.
Price — and what the GEX tier excludes
The tools on this page run $39 to $199/mo. Check whether GEX is the product itself, one tier's feature, or an upsell inside a flow platform — and whether the trial actually covers the GEX surface you are buying.

Prices verified on each vendor’s own pricing page on November 4, 2026 — check the vendor for current pricing before you buy. Every entry names what that tool does better than Profit Builders; a roundup that hides the trade-offs isn’t one.
SpotGamma
The name the category is measured against. SpotGamma built its reputation on S&P 500 gamma: daily levels, the gamma flip, and a research practice built around dealer positioning — and its explainer content, starting with its “What is GEX?” page, is what the AI answer engines cite when traders ask how dealer gamma tracking works. That is what owning the education layer looks like, and no one else on this page has it. The concessions run the other way: the center of gravity is the index complex rather than single names, the pricing page lists no trial, and at $99/mo it costs two and a half times the cheapest GEX-only entry here.
Profit Builders
The GEX-first value option. The $39/mo GEX Heatmap tier covers 194 symbols — individual stocks and ETFs, each with a public per-ticker page — and the full calculation is published on the gamma exposure methodology page: settled OCC open interest as the base, the dealer sign convention stated, and repricing against live spot every 30 seconds for the 20 most active names, with the rest refreshed from the daily settled snapshot plus on-demand computation. No claim of live open interest, because there is no such feed. The same seat can add the real-time flow scanner ($99/mo, or $129/mo bundled). The honest trade-offs: a smaller name than SpotGamma with a younger education library, no futures-options gamma, and a surface built for the session read rather than intraday replay.
TradeEcho
DealerEdge, TradeEcho’s positioning suite, is broader than GEX alone: gamma levels sit alongside vanna (VEX) and charm surfaces, with named levels — flip point, anchor, defense lines — and intraday replay. It also publishes its own methodology, which puts it in the honest minority in this category. The concession is price: at $199/mo it is the most expensive seat on this page, because you are paying for the full dealer-exposure stack and its flow platform, not for gamma alone.
MenthorQ
A quantitative platform — 64+ models, by its own count — whose gamma levels carry a differentiator nobody else on this page has: levels calculated natively from futures options chains (ES, NQ, RTY, crude, gold) rather than mapped from the equity options market, alongside equity GEX across 1,000+ assets, again by its own count. The trade-off: GEX is one suite inside a large quant-and-education platform, so the $129/mo buys a broader machine than a gamma tool — and there is no free trial, a 7-day money-back offer instead.
BullFlow
A flow-first platform whose $39/mo plan includes GEX levels alongside real-time unusual flow and alerts — one of the two joint-cheapest ways on this page to get any gamma read at all. The concessions: GEX is a feature of a flow product, not the product — there is no published gamma methodology page of the kind SpotGamma and Profit Builders maintain — and, per BullFlow’s own FAQ, there is no trial period, so the first month is the evaluation.
Quant Data
Options flow with a broad dealer-exposure suite: GEX shown alongside DEX, VEX and CHEX, plus API access with MCP support that Profit Builders doesn’t offer. The concessions for a GEX buyer: gamma is one panel inside a wide analytics platform aimed at flow traders, its standard plans are for non-professional traders only, and the per-symbol GEX read is a dashboard view rather than published per-ticker pages with a public methodology behind them.
